Moderninkfremantle- Scars

Salutations inkers! And greetings too, hope you’ve all had a great weekend.

Scars. So many of us have them from such a wide variety of different causes. Sometimes scarring can give you self-esteem issues or can be a reminder of a painful or unhappy time in your life, and nobody wants that! Thats where we come in. Tattooing over scarred tissue is becoming more and more frequent in the shop every week. It is a creative way to turn something you may not feel good about into something you can be proud of!

However, tattooing into scarred tissue can be very hit-and-miss. With the possibility for such a wide variety in density, texture, and structure of damaged tissue, you cannot always be certain a tattoo is going to successfully hide it. This is when a consultation comes in handy, this is your opportunity to come into the studio and meet an artist so they can take a look at your skin and give you a %100 honest idea of whether or not they believe tattooing will achieve what you are hoping for.

Scar cover-up tattooed by Kris Barnas over severe laser-removal scarring.

While we can never guarantee anything until we meet you and see your skin in person, this blog is our place to communicate to you things like this! If you weren't aware that scarring can be tattooed, or have had other artists not comfortable with tackling a difficult job, give us a shot, we’d love to be able to make you feel great.

Hope you are all ready to take the week on, speak again soon gang!

Trend Alert! Tiny Tatts

How are we doing inkers? We are flat out as usual and are pumping out the good stuff every day!

This week were going to have a quick look at something were noticing lately: some people like small tattoos.

The thing is, sometimes that can compromise what you can actually have tattooed. Thankfully, the artists at Modern are quite the crafty pack, and lately they have been doing some great tiny tatties.

Smaller, standalone tattoos can be a great way to make a statement without going all out or making Mum and Dad mad! You can place them in discrete areas for professionalism or privacy, and you can still wear an artwork to be proud of.

Small doesn't necessarily mean simple! While it can limit detail depending on how small you are wanting to go, you can still get an idea across without going for an entire sleeve. They can be very affordable, and look great, and with the variety of artists we are hosting (Thats 8 tattooists now and up to 9 in July when Jessie Foakes joins us briefly!) we are sure to have someone who can make your day and your next great tattoo.

So if you have an idea for a tiny taft that you want to really give some life to

, lets talk, wed love to hang out!

Stay safe people, hope everything is super!

The Tattoo How-to, Part Deux

So a few weeks back we started talking about how to get the best tattoo you can, and then we had some other exciting news that we had to interrupt the flow with. Were back on track now, so this

Tattoo by Sophia Lee

Week were going to look at how to prepare yourself for a consultation or query about your ideas for a tattoo.

                                       Tattoo by Jaes Bidwell

So you have an idea for a tattoo. You know basically what you want and where you want to put it, but youre not 100% certain on the details. You can see it in your mind, but you dont know how to explain it. Gather REFERENCES. Look for images on the internet that are similar to what you were thinking of, check out Instagram, Pinterest can be a great resource for ideas too! Google is everyones best friend, the internet is useful, make use of it.

These references can be taken into the studio or even emailed along with a general description of your idea and the size placement and colour choices. This is usually enough information for us to be able to supply you with a quote and an idea of when the piece can be done. If either of us think it is a design that should be discussed in person to clarify details, then we book a free consultation and meet up in the studio so we can shake-hands and talk-tatties.

If you see an artist who you think does great work, request them! But put some thought into your choices, if you see someone who does great work but the work that you want is not similar

to what they generally produce, maybe they aren't suitable for that work. Or maybe there are other tattoos you could get with that artist so you can still wear their work. The more the merrier.

So thats it for now, ink-fans. Now stop reading this, go gather your references, and email t

hem to us so we can get the ball rolling on your next piece of modern ink.

Have an amazing week!

Australia’s commercial market 2016

Australia’s commercial market 2016 will continue to provide an opportunity for many investors and property buyers. It has been noticed that overseas market is taking an interest investing in Australia. Singapore’s Ascendas investing in purchasing an office in Australia, paying more than $316 million. At 100 Arthur Street, the property was owned by the famous Salteri family for over 50 years, the tower which was built in 2007.

Ascendas, the trusted company in Singapore, constructed an Australian commercial property portfolio last year.

It is also known for a purchase of $1 billion of GIC Real Estate/Australia logistics portfolio in the month of September.

Investors spent around $35 billion in the commercial office space in 2015. Seeing the figures and consistency there is a prediction that the trend will continue in 2016 as well.

According to the Global Standards, Asia and Canada were declared the biggest buyers across the world, attracted by the Australia’s high yield commercial property.

The median value across NSW increased by 16.8 percent in 2015, with 50 per cent increase in some parts of Sydney. Rents have risen off the new supply. Also, the number of office building have converted into the apartment building or hotels.

The sales figures of 100 Arthur Street revealing a rate per square meter whereas the lettable area is 27,196 square meter. It can be easily affordable under $11500.

Currently, the tower is fully leased to privately owned companies, a mix Commonwealth government and NYSE listed.

Ascendas own nearly 30 properties. Last December it also paid around $76.6 million for another site in Sydney itself.

Fresh blood: Heather

Hey there inkers! Hope youre all having a fantastic week.

This week were going to be welcoming the newest member of the Modern Ink Team, our apprentice, Heather Bradley. Heather has been with us since the start of the year, and we are very happy to have her with us.

Heather is an experienced artist who has also already tattooed clients in the past, and as such we have taken her under our wing to revise the basics and to discuss drawing and artwork, before again putting a machine in her hands. Heather has now begun tattooing clients at her own pave, and over time will develop into a full-time tattooer with her own space in our studio!

Heather enjoys a variety of art styles but tends to excel in realism and enjoys spiritual designs with deep meaning behind them. She draws inspiration from animals, people, spirituality, abstract designs, and even pop culture artwork like anime and some neo-traditional tattooing.

Heather is studying mainly under our head-artist Kris tutelage but is also constantly communicating with our artists to develop anything she can to make her the best tattooer she can be. Heather has a strong passion for her work and is an enthusiastic and kind person who we are very pleased to have as a part of our expanding team.

So keep your eyes peeled people, Heather is the next best thing to come out of our studio and we are very proud and excited to see where her tattooing journey takes her.

Next week we just may have some more happy news, so stay tuned!
Until then stay safe, see you next time youre in the studio!

Guest Artist inbound! Jessie Foakes

Howdy inkers! Hope you’re all having a fantastic week and that 2016 is off to a killer start. We have some exciting news! This year we will be host to a few guest artists from across the globe! The first one we would like to announce is Jessie Foakes, from Goodship 13 tattoo studio in Hadleigh, Essex!

Jessie is a unique and stylised tattooer who creates individual pieces with an almost abstract quality to them. Her work is vivid and beautiful, well-tattooed and definitely has a life-span to it to boot! Jessie will be working with our friends at Elysian tattoo in June and then will be settling down with us for a while from July onwards.

We are so excited to have another artist in our shop with us, it’s a great opportunity for us to bounce off of each other and watch another artist at work. It’s also a great chance for us to be tattooed by a popular international artist ;D.

Guest Artist: Kylie Garth

Howdy inkers!

We’re going to interrupt the blog for a quick mention to our newest guest artist; Kylie Garth!
Kylie is a body mod artist and machine-free tattooer who hails from New Zealand and has worked all over the world. She offers simple and cute designs tattooed by hand-poking method, a style of tattoo art and method that has become increasingly popular over the years, especially with the ladies!

Kylie has trained and developed her work with a number of reputable mentors internationally and has been tattooing her unique and adorable designs on them for years. The tattoos are made by a series of hand-poked dots that form lines and as such are prone to being stipple-shaded and can also have a dash of colour through them for some extra oomph!

Kylie has been taking a large number of bookings and we are so happy to be able to offer yet another unique modification out of our studio. We are one of the only studio’s in W.A to offer machine and hand-poke tattooing in so many diverse styles as well as high-end body jewellery and professional body-piercing, 2016 is already shaping up to be a massive one for us, we have more guest artists come through to, so keep your peepers peeled and your ears open!

Next week we are going to introduce our other fresh blood; the studios new apprentice Heather Bradley. Then we will get back into teaching you how to find the artist for you and how to correctly convey your ideas to get the best tattoo you could imagine.

Til next time inkers!

Paper

Howdy there inkers!

Our next few blogs will be centred on finding an appropriate art style and artist for your tattoo, and the best ways to go about it! First up we are going to look at the importance of not just seeking a tattooer, but an artist.

When looking for a tattooer, it is important to not go shooting in the dark. You should be looking at artists work, their tattooing and their drawings, get a feel for their aesthetic and their influences, don’t approach a trad artist about realism, don’t approach a realism artist about dotwork, if you want the best tattoo you get then it is important to pick out someone who has done work that you can look at and confidently say “I would wear that.”

                                                      Pencil drawing by Sanni Saar.

Something else that is crucial in getting that perfect piece is to find an artist who can actually DRAW. If you want an original customised design, it should be performed by an artist who can create that piece for you. Our guys are all very talented artists first and foremost.

Trad flash design by Jaes Bidwell.

                                         Artwork by Allan Tuul.

When it comes the time for you to pick out an artist, consider the following things:
- The style of artwork you want, have you seen it somewhere before? Are there local artists who can provide a similar style?

-The content. Do you think the artist you have in mind is going to be suitable to your ideas? If they suggest a different artist, maybe consider checking them out? Tattooers will never say no to a job they think they can do well, if they recommend someone else it may be because they are not the best-suited to the job!

-Be fluid. Try to understand the process, you will end up with a better piece by discussing your ideas and developing them with an artist. If you have picked a particular artist for a piece, it is because of their work! So let them have some creative input on your ideas, they may just suggest something you never considered!

                                          Pencil drawing by Kris Barnas.

                                          Flash design by Jaz Winters.

That’s it for this week, inkers. We have an incredibly diverse palate of talented artists in our studio, we pride ourselves on our variety and our capability to take on any job, if you have an idea or a style, contact us and we can arrange for you to discuss it with an appropriate artist.

Next week we will be talking about how to prepare for an enquiry/consultation. What information should you be giving an artist to get your ideas across right?

Til next time inkers!

Tattoo of the Month

Happy New Year!

Well inkers, we did it, we survived another year. We’re going to kick 2016 off with a bang and it’s only going up from there. To start it off, we’ve decided to offer something pretty great.

Head-artist Kris loves what he does. And sometimes we have clients come to him with ideas so great he’s jumping out of his skin to get stuck into them. So he has decided for the entire year, that he’s going to offer 12 lucky clients the opportunity to be tattooed absolutely free of cost. So at this point, you’re probably thinking “what’s the catch?” Well, there really isn’t one. We’re just looking to do some killer tattoos.

Kris is going to offer free tattooing to any idea he sees that really gets him excited. So here’s how it works. First, you email him on tattooo85@gmail.com and include the following information:
-          The idea for your tattoo! What do you want done? Include reference images and a description of your idea and the placement of the piece.

-          Your contact information! A full name and phone number is perfect.

-          Availability! When are you free to do it or are there any dates in particular you can’t.
Once a month, Kris will go through all of these emails and select the idea that stands out to him the most. Then, you will get an email that lets you know you’re the lucky son-of-a-gun who will be Kris’ tattoo of the month! It’s that simple.

So there you have it boys and girls, get thinking, may the best idea win!

Til next week, inkers!
